Tokyo is filled to the brim with fantastic dining options. You can literally walk into any small restaurant and find incredibly delicious treats. I’m pretty sure heading over to something affectionately called Piss Alley might not be your first idea… but maybe it should.
Omoide Yokocho actually translates to Memory Lane, but for reasons easily imaginable it got its somewhat un-appetizing moniker during the decades that locals have flocked to the narrow alley for cheap food and even cheaper beer.
The alley is only steps away from the hectic Shinjuku station, but you won’t find a lot of tourists on Omoide Yokocho. Instead, mainly locals still come here to enjoy all sorts of foods, including pig testicles and frog sashimi. I prefer the yakitori, which are some of the best in the entire city. And the chicken skewers are best enjoyed with some cold beer!
