Santa Barbara is the quintessential southern California small town, with its tall palm trees and Spanish colonial architecture, happy rollerbladers on the promenade wearing every possible shade of pastels and vendors hawking hot dogs on the pier with signs that say things like Get It While It’s Hot. It’s basically like wandering into the set of a ’90s TV show.

santa barbara californiaThat is actually where I first became aware of the city – ’90s TV. There was this soap opera called Santa Barbara that I remember watching reruns of when I was a kid. It was definitely not as good as Sunset Beach but it was kinda cool. I can’t remember any specific plot points, but I clearly remember all the actors being blonde and wearing pastel polo shirts while strolling on the beach. So naturally that’s what I had to do too.

If you want to stroll along the beach, there are few places better than Santa Barbara. The city has a beautiful beach that stretches for miles and miles, lined by incredibly tall palm trees. Anyone can be a soap opera star under these trees.
