The pool parties at The Standard Hotel in Downtown LA are legendary. The only problem is, I was not aware of this legend. I was staying at the hotel with a friend, who, after a very wild and tiresome weekend, wanted to spend Sunday afternoon lazing by the rooftop pool. I, in turn, stayed behind in the room to wallow in self-pity, moaning to no one and munching on some Sour Patch Kids.
It wasn’t ten minutes before my friend returned to our room, saying she was turned away from the rooftop due to the regular Sunday afternoon pool parties. It wasn’t ten seconds until I was ready to go.
Nothing is ever enough in LA. Friday and Saturday are just the beginning, sleeping on a Sunday is for amateurs. There was nothing else to do, we had to conform to the way of the land, put on our best bikinis, down a few gin&tonics and jump in the pool to make new friends.
The Standard DTLA’s rooftop has fantastic views of the Downtown LA area
The rooftop has several bars, including a German style Biergarten with ping pong tables
Parties at the rooftop continue way into the night / and a million lights surround the rooftop
