Afternoon Tea in London

Afternoon Tea is the quintessential English treat.

Don’t let the name fool you – it’s not really about tea. Sure, there is always a selection of tasty teas, but that’s not all. Traditionally the tea is served with cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches and other nibbles as well as delectable cakes and pastries.

Conrad St. James is one of my favorite places for afternoon tea in London, for many reasons. They offer a luxurious and classy setting with pleasantly relaxed service, resulting in a refined yet relaxing atmosphere.

They serve traditional and not-so-traditional fare including wasabi sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and my favorite, Battenberg Cake. What really takes them a step above the competition is the free flowing champagne.

That’s right, for £35 you get your tea, your sweets and treats and an endless stream of champagne. I probably don’t even have to say it – I left this afternoon tea a very happy man.

  1. I absolutely adore afternoon tea. In Helsinki we only have two places that have it. The other one, Salutorget, also offers “gentlemen’s tea”. It’s a salty version of the regular afternoon tea with the likes of oysters and pulled pork. I’d rather go for the scones and sandwiches type!
